I was listening recently to an interview where a woman from a rural/regional area was saying she’d been criticised for supposedly downloading too many movies and that that was part of the reason for their Internet problems. As this lady said, they can’t even get enough Internet coverage to send an email or educate their children through distance education – why on earth would there be sufficient services to be able to download movies. Communication, which is taken for granted east of the Great Divide, is such a luxury in vast parts of Australia. It’s time that Australians were treated equally with decent access to communication services, especially for the education of their children and to run their businesses, and not become the pawn in the political game of chess just because their electorates have fewer people and enough political clout – that their issues aren’t vote winning.
