The nbn network uses the following fixed line connection technologies:
- Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Fibre optic cable delivers broadband straight to your home or business.
- Fibre to the Building (FTTB) Fibre optic cable runs to your building, then existing copper cables within your building deliver broadband to your unit or apartment.
- Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connection is used in circumstances where fibre is extended close to your premises, connecting to a small Distribution Point Unit (DPU), generally located inside a pit on the street.
- Fibre to the Node (FTTN) Fibre optic cable runs to a central location (node) in your street, then existing copper lines deliver broadband to your home or business.
- Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) Fibre optic cable runs to a node in your street, then existing cables deliver broadband to your home or business.
